In His Word Wednesday

Psalm 8:9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Majesty: supreme greatness or authority

Today is Earth Day. Although I love nature and God's creation, I think many people have almost turned to a type of worship of nature. The earth, and those who care for it, can save us. Everything they do revolves around caring for the earth. Now, I'm all for good stewardship of our resources (which includes, but is not limited to, natural resources) but our taking care of the earth does not determine the outcome of humankind.

This verse says it all...God, and God alone, is the supreme authority in all the earth. Nothing is outside his control. There is no need to fear. He is in control of the outcome of humankind...and nothing happens on this earth that isn't part of His plan.

On a more personal note...while I was pregnant with Sarah I read about people meditating on scripture and praying during labor to decrease the pain. I thought maybe I would try it. During labor this is the verse that popped in my head with each contraction. I tried to focus on Him and His majesty and power. Did it decrease the pain? I think so...a few of the contractions I just tried to deal with the pain. They were much worse than the contractions where I was meditating on this verse. Both the nurse and midwife in attendance at the birth couldn't believe how calm and serene I was...I think this verse was part of the reason for that.

Go here for more encouragement in the Word.

  1. That verse is definately calming and reassuring the yes God is in control of even the earth!!

    where is that verse found?

    thanks for posting and linking!

  2. It is found in Psalms chapter 8 (it is actually in there twice!).

  3. Thank you for sharing this verse.

I have been reading in Phil. 2 about the name of Jesus.

It makes me so angry when the world chooses to use these precious names to slander each other. Sad, so sad.

Let me know what you're thinking!!
