Last week as we finished up our study on volcanoes, we decided to make our own. First, Caleb made up a play dough recipe to form the volcano.
Then he and Josiah formed the mountain around a water bottle. They decided to add green food coloring to make it a volcano with a lot of vegetation growing on it.
Zeke would love the "recipe" for this! He thought it looked like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteYou're so brave Shannon! I've been wanting to do something like this for years...but have never gotten around to it! I know my kids would love it. I need to be a more fun homeschool mom! :-) I hope you guys are doing well. Our prayers continue here for Norrie!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so how FUN does that look! Would you mind posting what you used to make the dough? Also how did you know how much baking soda to use and all that???
ReplyDeleteI am picturing a fun science afternoon of volcano making in our future....Elizabeth if right BRAVE indeed!
Here's the recipe for the eruption!!:
ReplyDeleteIn a 16 oz. plastic bottle (I used a water bottle) add 3 to 4 tablespoons baking soda. Add 3-4 drops dishwashing detergent. Then slowly add 1/2 cup of water.
Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with 3-4 drops red or orange food coloring.
Slowly add the vinegar mixture to the bottle. The chemical reaction will then cause the eruption!
As you can see from the pictures I used a cookie sheet with sides underneath it to contain the mess.
Looking forward to seeing some pictures of your volcanoes!
