From Scratch

Sarah is hosting From Scratch again this week.  We've been eating our freezer meals.  I had one major flop this week . . . I've found that you cannot freeze uncooked biscuit dough and then thaw and bake.  They didn't rise at all!   If you have any advise on how to make biscuits with my freezer meals, I'm all ears!

One thing I've started making from scratch is teriyaki sauce.  I'm not a measurer when I cook, so I'll give you the general idea of what I do.

Ingredients:
Juice from a can of pineapple  (you can eat the pineapple separately)
1/4-1/2 C Soy Sauce
1-2 T Brown Sugar
Corn Starch

Mix together the juice and Soy Sauce.  I just eyeball it - aim low at first, you can always add more.  Add in the sugar.  Stir it up.  Give it a little taste and see if it needs more soy sauce or sugar.  Start heating on medium heat.  Mix a Tablespoon of Cornstarch in COLD water.  Once the corn starch is dissolved add it to the mixture.  Continue heating and bring to a boil.  Mixture will thicken and you have a tasty teriyaki sauce.

Make sure you head over and check out everyone's recipes!

  2. ... with the biscuits ... baking them before hand then freeze. Thaw when ready to use.

I freeze bread ALL THE TIME! My Grandma Magdalene taught me to freeze about anything BUT mashed potatoes and milk. She was such a smart gal, very talented. :)
