Everywhere you turn these days people are telling you to be green. Simple living is also becoming all the rage. I, like most people, am influenced by being bombarded constantly with these messages. Living simply and green doesn't have to involve huge overtures. It involves making small choices each day.
I think we all have a desire to live a more simple life. Chaos abounds. Peace is scarce. But, what is simple living? I've found that living simply isn't really that simple. It's hard work! I only have a certain number of hours in my day, so I have to make choices about which changes to make in my life. Living like a pioneer may be simpler, but it involves sacrifices that I'm not willing to make. For me, living simply is about living a healthier, fuller lifestyle, while still having time to do what my family and I enjoy.
Green living is about taking care of the world we live in. I am not a believer in man made global warming. I do not believe in being 'green' out of fear. I do believe that God gave us His creation to care for and enjoy. I want to be sure that my children and grandchildren are able to go out and enjoy hiking and nature. God gave us such a beautiful world and he gave us stewardship over it. That is why it is important for us to be aware of the impact we have on the earth.
Over the next few weeks I'm going to share some of the ways I try to live more simply and green. I'll also share some of the changes I have planned for the future. Some of them are truly simplistic and things you've done for years. Some are things you may never have any desire to do. Some things that may epitomize simple living are missing from my list. My list and your list will not (and should not) be the same. Each individual, family and household is unique. But there are changes we all can make. Changes that are great for our health, our finances, our well being and our world. I would love to hear ways that YOU are moving towards a simpler, greener lifestyle.
