The Room Formerly Known as the School Room

Even as a little girl, I always dreamed of having a library.   At the age of 35, I've realized I will probably never own a house that has one.  So, I decided to make my own.   We have a lot of books.  A lot.  I might have issues.  But, my books aren't going anywhere, so I need someplace to keep them.

When we added on 2 years ago, we included a school room in our plan.  For two years we've had a school room and I've learned that we need a place to store all our school books, but that the kids don't work at one particular spot all the time.  So, I devised a plan for a desk area that seats two with bookshelves above it.  I wasn't quite sure how I was going to make it work, until we made a trip to ikea last week.  I found my desktop!  We added shelves from Lowes.  A perfect work area.

Much to my husband's chagrin delight, I had even bigger plans!   I wanted a wall of shelves on the wall between the school room and the kitchen.   We have it almost completed (we have 2 2 foot sections that we had to have ripped).  I am very pleased with the end result.  I have lots of room to add more books, as well!  The crates on the floor hold all the picture books.  I plan on putting casters on them, so they can easily be rolled in and out.

Maybe it's not quite a library, but the kids have agreed to start calling it the library instead of the school room!  So, I have a library at last.
